My first post
Hello Everybody,
Sabaidee My name is Chantha. I am the Head Librarian for the Luang Prabang Library. I am also the Progamme Coordinator for Community Learning International(CLI). I have been involved with education since I graduated from the teachers training college in 1999. Shortly there after I started working at the Childrens Cultural Center in Luang Prabang. Since 2004 I have been working in the Luang Prabang Library which is also when I got connected to CLI. My passion is educating children and expanding knowledge. I love kids and books which makes my job highly enjoyable.
One of my jobs with CLI is scheduling the library boats. The library boats are operated by CLI and deliver books to some of the many villages that can only be accessed by boat. It is with the support of donations by people walking into the ilbrary and CLI that the library boats are able to keep running. We decided to start this blog so that people who have donated or are interested in donating can get a better look at what we do. My hopes are to increase the exposure of the library boats and receive continued support to help keep them operating.
CLI currently operates two boats one on the mekong and one on the ou river. Combined they reach around 75 different villages. This may be the first opportunity that some village children have a chance to hold a book.
This weekend I will be training 20 young khmu volunteers to do after school activities in my library. Every weekend we have activities for the Khmu schools.
Over the next few weeks I will introduce you to some of the staff here at the library and who work on the boats.
Here I am standing outside of our beautiful library.
